2008 MARGARET RIVER CHARDONNAY

WINESTATE  Voted Top 5 Chardonnay

Throughout the year more than 10,000 wines are blind judged in Australia and New Zealand by various Winestate panels and editors.  After 12 months of tasting all the wines, Winestate approaches all the producers who have achieved a 41/2 or 5-star rating for any of their wines submitted throughout the year and ask them to resubmit those wines for another tasting, where they compete against their peers.
As a result of this judging Barwick Estates Black Label 2008 Margaret River Chardonnay was placed in the Top 5 Chardonnay’s released in Australia & New Zealand in 2009!

Foundation Support:

Stop the Toad Foundation

Stop the Toad

Barwick Estates is proud to be supporting the Stop the Toad Foundation in their fight against the inexorable spread of the cane toads westward into WA.

Seventy years after their release in the canefields of Queensland, cane toads have spread westward across tropical Australia at an alarming rate and are now only 200km from the WA border. CSIRO projections suggest that cane toads could eventually spread right through WA. Every wetland, golf course and backyard from Kununurra to Esperance will make suitable habitat. We are all facing the prospect of living under a new kind of occupation.

With large areas of wetlands on their Margaret River winery & vineyard, Barwick Estates are well aware of the impact such an invasion could have on the natural habitat & fauna on our property. We were delighted to have the opportunity to support such a worthwhile cause and will be giving a donation to the Stop the Toad Foundation for every bottle of Stop the Toad wine sold.

The Stop the Toad Foundation has been established to fund and oversee the community effort to keep WA cane toad free. It will deploy trapping, monitoring and hand-mustering operations in co-operation with CALM, equipping and training community groups to contribute to the effort. This is a massive undertaking in every sense. But it is a project that promises to unite people from every aspect of our community. For when it comes to defending country and heritage we are convinced that Western Australians will rise to the challenge.
